The Ketogenic Diet is trending - and there's a reason why!
This high-fat, low-carb diet touts an array of health benefits - from neurological support to weight-loss.
Because I get so many questions about the Ketogenic Diet, I decided to give it a try! I followed Dr. Josh Axe's Keto360 Program for 30 days to experience keto for myself.
Below, you'll find some of my favorite resources (books, websites, etc.) and my go-to food brands and snacks so you can start your Ketogenic Diet reset on the right foot.
When I started planning my Ketogenic Diet reset, I started to create keto-related resources, but there are already so many well-researched, science-backed explanations and guides that I decided it'd be more empowering to direct you to the ones I found the most helpful!
The Ketogenic Diet: Books & Online Resources
I first came across Leanne Vogel of Healthful Pursuit while listening to a podcast by Dr. Anthony Gustin (the founder of Perfect Keto...read more about him and his company below), and I was struck by how relatable she was!
One of the things I like most about Leanne and the content she produces is her balanced/real-life approach. The Ketogenic Diet is a very technical, strategic nutrition approach, and it can easily become overwhelming and complicated.
Leanne's book "The Keto Diet," her YouTube channel, her blog, and her podcast are all great resources to tap into to learn about the Ketogenic Diet, how it can fit into your lifestyle, and what kind of approach makes the most sense for you and your goals!
Dr. Axe's website has a comprehensive Ketogenic Diet resources page that is the perfect place to start for a keto beginner.
From explaining what the Ketogenic Diet is, to exploring the methods and benefits, as well as offering guides on how to avoid the keto flu + recipes and food lists, it contains all the essentials! Plus, there are clickable citations so you can read up on studies and the science referenced in the information.
As I mentioned above, I followed Dr. Josh Axe's Keto360 Program during my Ketogenic Diet reset - I really appreciated the program's whole food approach which complemented my dairy-free diet (a lot of keto-ers go heavy on the dairy), as well as his line of Keto-friendly protein powders and supplements.
Dr. Anthony Gustin is a functional medicine practitioner and founder of Perfect Keto, and has dedicated his practice to creating tools, resources, and supplements to help give the Ketogenic Diet a more accessible and mainstream platform.
The Perfect Keto website is a great resource for recipes and information, and the guides are a great resource for getting started!
Stocking A Keto Pantry
If you're doing a Ketogenic Diet reset, you'l want to make sure you have plenty of keto-friendly foods, staples, snacks, and pantry items on-hand! Below are a few of my favorites.
My friends over at Paleo By Maileo sent me a little keto care package with keto/paleo-friendly snacks! They introduced me to some new whole-food brands that have become pantry staples for me, including:
- Pili Nuts
- Raw Food Central Flaxseed Crackers
- Bacons Heir Pork Clouds
- Eating Evolved Midnight Coconut 100% Cacao Bar
Thrive Market came in clutch for my Ketogenic Diet reset! Thrive Market is like Whole Foods & Costco had an internet baby: wholesale-priced organic goods that are delivered to your door, only a click away!
I love to stock up on a lot of my go-to healthy dry goods and superfoods at Thrive Market! They offer a 25-50% discount on a lot of natural living products and my favorite healthy pantry items.
Some items I bought from Thrive Market during my Ketogenic Diet reset:
- Cooking fats
- Nuts (cashews, macadamia nuts, pecans, coconut, etc.)
- Collagen peptides
- Eating Evolved Keto Cups (great on-the-go snack)
- Wonder Noodles
- NutPods (for my coffee)
One of my favorite brands I discovered while doing my Ketogenic Diet reset is Know Foods!
Use coupon code HAPPYHEALTHYJOE10 for 10% off!
This company is committed to providing grain, gluten, wheat, soy, dairy, peanut, and yeast-free baked goods! And a lot of their products are keto-friendly!
Some of my favorites:
These products made it really easy to get creative with my meals, and being made with simple, whole food ingredients (like chia, flax, coconuts, almonds & egg whites) they meet my personal dietary preferences.
*NOTE* Most of KNOW Foods baked goods are preservative-free, so it's important to keep them stored properly (refrigerated or frozen) to maintain quality and freshness.
Another great brand I came across is Lakanto!
Lakanto is committed to provided high-quality Monkfruit-based sweeteners. Monkfruit is a fascinating fruit that provides sweetness while boasting a zero glycemic index! I don't have a sweet tooth, but I found Monkfruit to be super helpful in making my Keto-friendly fat bombs and freezer fudges.
Here are some fun recipes that used Lakanto Monkfruit you'll find on my blog:
