IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE: A lot of these essential oils are considered "hot" oils, meaning they may cause a burning or warming sensation when used topically - especially the spice oils. I highly recommend diluting thoroughly with fractionated coconut oil for topical use.

Looking for an essential oil diffuser? This is where I go to get mine.

1. Cinnamon essential oil

Extracted from the bark of a tropical evergreen tree, Cinnamon essential oil has a strong, spicy aroma due to a high content of cinnamaldehyde.

This oil is warming and commonly used to support healthy circulation and blood flow.

Usage tip: Because is so strong, this essential oil should be used sparingly and diluted thoroughly with fractionated coconut oil when applied topically. Avoid eyes/ears/nose/mouth and mucous membranes.

2. Ylang Ylang essential oil

Ylang ylang essential oil is distilled from the fragrant star-shaped flowers of the tropical Ylang Ylang tree.

This oil is popular in the perfume industry because of its strong floral scent. In Indonesia, traditionally the flower petals are scattered on beds of newly married couples.

It's commonly used for relaxation and is perfect for elevating sexual energy!

Usage tip: Diffuse a few drops of Ylang Ylang essential oil in an atomizing diffuser to set the tone for a romantic evening. Ylang Ylang blends well with Bergamot, Geranium, Grapefruit, and Vetiver.

3. Ginger essential oil

Hot and earthy, ginger is perfect for adding some flavor and spicing things up!

Sourced from Madagascar, dōTERRA's Ginger essential oils is derived from the fresh rhizome (part of the root system) of the ginger plant.

Physically, it is used to support circulatory health and can be very energizing. Emotionally, it can be grounding and invite openness in relationships.

Usage tip: Dilute thoroughly if used topically. When diffusing, Ginger essential oil blends well with Bergamot, Cedarwood, Vetiver, and Geranium.

4. Clary Sage essential oil

Clary Sage is known for its calming and rejuvenating properties. It is one of the most relaxing, soothing, and balancing essential oils due to its main chemical component, linalyl acetate.

Usage tip: Do not use Clary Sage if pregnant. Clary Sage essential oil pairs well with citrus oils, floral oils, and wood oils when diffused. Dilute with fractionated coconut oil for a soothing, sensual massage. Combine with Roman Chamomile and epsom salts for a fragrant and relaxing candlelit bath.

5. Hawaiian Sandalwood essential oil

Sandalwood's rich, woody aroma is both erotic and soothing. Exotic and honey-sweet, it's perfect for dissipating tension and enhancing a romantic mood.

Usage tip: Also used widely for it's skin-enhancing and anti-aging properties, Hawaiian Sandalwood essential oil is perfect for massage.

6. Black Pepper essential oil

Warm and perfectly spicy, Black Pepper essential oil is known to stimulate appetite - in more ways than one. 😉

This essential oil is high in monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes, known for their antioxidant activity, and is used to support healthy circulation.

Usage tip: When diluted, Black Pepper makes for a great warming massage. Diffuse alone to help dissuade anxious feelings, or pair with other spice oils and wood oils to set the mood.

7. dōTERRA Clary Calm Women's Monthly essential oil Blend

Made with essential oils like Clary Sage, Roman Chamomile, Geranium, Fennel, Carrot Seed, Palmarosa, and Vitex, this proprietary dōTERRA essential oil blend was created to provide soothing support during a women's menstrual cycle.

Although named the "Women's Monthly Blend," ClaryCalm is great for both men and women, offering cooling effects for the skin and balance for emotions.

Usage tip: During your menstrual cycle (this is for you, ladies), apply topically to your abdomen to experience a soothing and calming massage. Diffuse for a calming aroma, and apply to aromatherapy pulse points when in need of emotional soothing and balance.

8. Jasmine essential oil

Known as the “King of Flowers,” Jasmine is prized for its delicate white flowers, which emit a highly fragrant aroma for up to 36 hours after being hand-picked.

Jasmine is a rare essential oil - the process of distilling this oil is extremely labor intensive and must be done at daybreak when the flowers are most fragrant.

Jasmine is calming, yet euphoric, and instills a sense of self-confidence.

Usage tip: Because this oil is rare, use sparingly! Apply to aromatherapy pulse points and over the heart. Dilute for massage.

Since Jasmine is so rare, this essential oil cannot be purchased at retail through dōTERRA and is only available as a promotional product.

9. Rose essential oil

Rose is the oil of love, and has a powerful floral scent that is both beautiful and romantic.

It takes over a million fresh-picked Bulgarian rose petals to produce one ounce of Rose essential oil. Because the petals are so delicate, the distillation process happens the same day the flowers are harvested.

Usage tip: Because this oil is rare, use sparingly! Apply to aromatherapy pulse points and over the heart. Dilute for massage.

Since Rose is so rare, this essential oil cannot be purchased at retail through dōTERRA and is only available as a promotional product.

10. dōTERRA Passion Inspiring Blend

This is my favorite emotional aromatherapy blend! I like to use it to spark creativity and inspiration, but the oils in dōTERRA's Passion Inspiring Blend include many on this list that have aphrodisiac properties, making it the perfect sensual blend:

  • Cinnamon

  • Ginger

  • Clove Bud

  • Sandalwood

And, as promised! a bonus...

here's the recipe to my My "Love Potion No.9" Blend!

In a 10mL roller bottle, add the following essential oils. Top off with fractionated coconut oil to dilute for topical use.

  • 5 drops Sandalwood essential oil

  • 3 drops Ylang Ylang essential oil

  • 2 drops Frankincense essential oil

This essential oil blend is perfect for massage or to use as an all-natural perfume (simply apply over the heart chakra or to your favorite aromatherapy pulse points). Enjoy!

There's something I like to call the dōTERRA difference.

More than any other essential oil company I've come across, dōTERRA goes out of their way to provide the most purepotent, and therapeutically beneficial essential oils.

dōTERRA employs a self-imposed standard for purity called Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade - all of dōTERRA's essential oils must meet this standard to be sold and used. In order to be labeled Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade (or CPTG for short), a batch of essential oil must pass eight different tests read up more on the process here!

Because of this testing process, you can be confident that dōTERRA essential oils are safe, pure, and effective to use in the ways described above and why I choose to use them in my integrative health coaching practice.

Each essential bottle also includes a Quality ID # that you can use to track where your oil was sourced and view the GC/MS test results for the batch. How cool is that?!

From my experience, dōTERRA essential oils are the best out there.
